PSYCHO TECHNICAL DIRECTORATE

Test Facilities :

The directorate has two well equipped labs, Psycho-Technical and Ergonomics laboratory with state-of-the-art techniques available for testing critical safety and efficiency attributes through man-machine interface. 

The Psycho-Technical Laboratory has various equipments for assessment of psycho-motor abilities and skills through computerised testing. 

a)  Computerised Drivers Aptitude Test – It assesses various attributes needed for safe train operations, as mentioned below-  

1. Depth Perception  
2. Distributed Attention  
3. Simple Reaction Time  
4. Choice Reaction Time

 

5. Form Perception
6. Continuous Addition
7.  Rail Sign
8. Speed Anticipation
9. Visual Vigilance
10. Fatigue
11. Peripheral Vision
12. Visual Acuity  
13. Night Vision  
14. Glare Recovery  

b)  Depth Perception Test: It measures the ability of an individual to observe the third dimension of an object. 

c)  Photo Electric Rotary Pursuit: It measures the eye-hand coordination of an individual. 

d)  Digital Flicker Fusion Test: It measures the mental fatigue of an individual. 

e)  Complex Reaction Time: It measures the reaction time of an individual for coloured light signals. 

f)  Discriminative Reaction Time: Measures the reaction time of an individual to discriminate between two stimulus.

g)  Choice Reaction Time: It measures the reaction time of an individual for 2 light signals. 

h)  Speed Anticipation Test: It measures the ability of an individual to anticipate speed. 

i)   Visual Vigilance Test: It measures the visual-vigilance capacity of an individual.

 

        

The Ergonomics Laboratory has the facility of measurement and control of stress with the aid of biofeedback equipment which assesses: 

1. Galvanic Skin Resistance

 

2. Respiration
3. Temperature
4. Electro Mayo Graph
5. Pulse Rate

Also a unique and prominent feature of this Laboratory are the Yoga and Meditation practices which are specially helpful in stress management and is an effective way of relaxation. Experiments on control of alcohol and de-addiction through yoga have also been successful.

Other Facilities

 

Apart from serving to the requirements of Indian Railways, the Directorate, in the recent past, has also rendered services  to public  sector undertakings viz. , the Konkan Railways, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and some Engineering colleges.

It is now open to undertake assignments from academic institutes and private sector also in the area of job analysis, personnel selection, professional counselling, evaluation of training programmes, stress management and rehabilitation.

 

For the Educational Institutions the directorate offers testing and counseling services for career selection, placement and adjustment.

Facilities include-

1.      Aptitude tests (assessing mainly the scholastic achievement and basic cognitive functions)

2.      Personality tests (Rorschach, MMPI, TAT, NEO, EPI, 16PF. GZTS, etc.)

 

Public and Private sector can avail of the numerous facilities offered by the psycho-Technical Directorate according to their specific needs.

Services include –

1.      Job analysis,

2.      Competence testing,

3.      Personality tests (Rorschach, MMPI, TAT, NEO, etc.),

4.      Measurement of Job satisfaction, Attitude, Communication skills, etc.

 

Regular workshops on Motivation and Stress Management are conducted for the benefit of the Railway employees. This facility is available to outsiders too.

The financial compensation for the services depends on the complexity and quantum of work. Rates are charged on per candidate basis and are negotiable.
